LO: Identify everyday materials and describe their properties by looking closely and then choosing an appropriate fabric to make a superhero cape.
Properties of a cape:
Bailee: made of silk
Axel: its smooth, and not waterproof
Freddie: soft
Dominykas: not stretchy
Lyra: could be waterproof because Traction Man is a superhero and they have magical powers

Jamal: I wonder if the cape is waterproof?
Lillia: What happens if I put it in the pool and it sinks?
Bailee: I wonder what happens if I make it wet?
Lily: Do you think the cape can sink?
Lyra: I wonder what happens if I put it in the washing machine?
Freya: I wonder what happens if I put it into warm water?
Ali: I wonder if the cape can be cut into a shape?
Harlan: I wonder if it can come alive?

Dishcloth:
Martyn thinks this would be good as a cape because it might soak up the water.
Maizie doesn’t think it will be waterproof
It pulls apart easily
Not so good to have as a cape
Tissue paper:
everyone thinks tissue paper wouldn’t be good to use as it breaks easily and gets wet
Towel:
Jamal: thinks it will help to keep you dry
Alfie: it’s a thick material and it won’t break easily
Jade: it will keep us warm
Arthur: not waterproof
Silk:
Emre: it dries quickly
Wool:
Jaylee: thinks it would keep you nice and warm
Leo: its soft
The wool is Tommy’s favourite as it is cosy and warm
Cotton:
Sophia: It won’t break when the rain comes down
Lyra: Water proof, magic powers will bounce off of it.
Jaylee: It floats in the wind so might help you fly
