1A - science

24th Jan 2022

In science we have learnt about daylight hours.  We watched a time lapse video of a sunrise and sunset and thought about those words.  We were very surprised to learn that the sun does not rise but the Earth rotates on its axis and that is what gives us our daylight and night time.  We used an inflatable globe and a torch to represent the sun's rays so that we could see what happens when the Earth rotates.  Then we completed a pictogram to show the amount of hours of daylight in each season.  That was extremely interesting; in winter there can be as few as 7 hours of daylight and in the summer, as many as 16!  So that's why it is sometimes dark when we go to bed and sometimes light!
