Christ Church, CEP Academy, Brockman Road, Folkestone, Kent

Music is taught across the whole academy and, in most classes, by a specialist music teacher, with class teachers providing additional cross curricular music in relation to topic work.

All children are given the opportunity to play a variety of musical instruments. In EYFS, Year 1 and 2 these instruments tend to be percussion, both tuned and untuned. In Years 3 and 4 the children learn to play Recorder; in Year 5 the children learn to play Ukulele and Djembe and in Year 6 the children are encouraged to combine all of these instruments to play as an ensemble.

All KS2 children have their own individual access to Charanga (the music website that we use) so that they can continue to learn and practise at home if they wish to.

Singing is an important part of all lessons and the children also regularly sing together in larger groups. All children are given the opportunity to take part in a variety of performances throughout the year including end of year productions, nativities, church services etc.

Extra curricular activities include a KS2 Choir and Hand Bell group. Additional opportunities are offered from time to time: such as participating in collaborative musical events with other local schools; Youth Festival of Remembrance; Young Voices at the O2 Arena and a variety of performances within the community.

All children are encouraged to have FUN in their music making!
