Today the children looked at how a larger number can be made up of two smaller numbers. They used counters and took turns to make up to smaller numbers e.g. if they started with seven counters they could make 3+4, or 2+5 and so on. They soon began to link this with number bonds and spotted patterns. This is a great game and easy to play at home with coins, buttons or any objects you have to hand.
