History- Mary Seacole

20th Nov 2020

As part of our Topic " We Are All Special" we have been exploring the lives of historically significant people. First we created timelines of our own lives to identify things that are important and special to us e.g. being born, learning to walk, starting school etc....

Then we began to look at historical events beyond our memory e.g. The Folkestone earthquake, the invention of TV, the reign of Queen Victoria etc... and compared where these events would sit compared to our timeline and with each other.

Then we have looked at the lives of historically significant people, Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale. We looked at the similarities and differences in their lives and how Mary Seacole faced prejudice unlike Florence Nightingale- despite wanting to help others.

We sorted a timeline of events in Mary's life, acted out what it must have been like to administer first aid on the battlefield and created playdoh medicines inspired by the herbal remedies made by Mary to cure others.
