2J- Science Mouldy Bread Experiment.

29th Nov 2021

As a topical focus in science today we discussed the importance of hand hygiene. We secretly placed four children in a circle clapping game with glitter on their hands. A little later, some other children in the glass observed they had glitter on their hands. We soon linked this to the passing of germs between people via our hands coming into contact with infected surfaces or people.

The children discussed different ways we could remove the glitter (germs) and made predictions. Finally we broke off into 4 groups and treated our hands in different ways before handling a slice of bread within each group. The first group did not wash their hands prior to handling the bread. Group 2 just washed hands with water. Group 3 washed with soap and water for 20 seconds and finally group 4 just used hand santiser.

We placed each sample in sealable bag and placed them in the classroom above a radiator. Over the coming days the children will work like scientists and observe any changes in each sample to see if their predictions are correct.

We will post further photos over the coming days......
